Product Care

Earthwear garments are created using natural fabrics and traditional processes that are designed for everyday wear. With the right care, they continue to hold their shape, colour, and character over time.

Here’s how to care for them, and what we do to ensure they last.

General care tips

Simple, everyday ways to keep your garments looking and feeling their best:

Dry clean for silks - For silks and silk blends, dry cleaning helps maintain their natural sheen and smooth finish, ensuring the fabric doesn’t lose its softness or subtle lustre over time.

Gentle hand wash - Use mild detergent and cold water for cottons and handlooms, as this helps preserve the fabric’s natural texture and prevents unnecessary stress on the fibres.

Avoid wringing - Instead of twisting, gently press out excess water or roll the garment in a towel, as wringing can distort the fabric and affect the garment’s shape.

Dry in the shade - Always air dry in a shaded, well-ventilated space, as direct sunlight can fade natural dyes and dull the richness of the colours.

Reverse Ironing - For embroidered and delicate pieces, iron inside-out at a medium-low setting, which helps protect surface detailing and prevents damage to threads and fabric.

Store with care - Use breathable fabric covers like muslin instead of plastic, as natural fibres need air circulation to retain their quality and prevent long-term damage.

The Earthwear Pre-Care Rituals

Minimizing Shrinkage

Natural fibers like Handwoven Khadi, 100% Cotton, and Silk Slubs are breathable because they aren't treated with heavy industrial chemicals.
To manage the natural contraction of these fibers, we pre-wash and steam-relax our yardage before it is cut.

Our Measure: By allowing the fabric to settle in advance, we reduce the chances of noticeable shrinkage after purchase, so the silhouette you love stays true to its form.

The garment retains its intended fit and fall, and extra margin is provided to accommodate minor adjustments if needed.

Stabilizing the Colours

Naturally dyed fabrics, especially hand block prints like Ajrakh, Bagru, and Dabu, develop their character through layered dyeing processes.

To stabilise the colours, fabrics go through traditional fixing methods followed by multiple rinse cycles.

Our Measure: This helps lock in the colour and minimise bleeding during use.
While a slight release of colour in early washes is natural, it does not transfer or affect the rest of the garment.

Durable Construction (The Overlock Finish)

We believe the inside of a garment should be as neat as the outside.
Delicate handwoven fabrics require careful finishing to ensure they hold up with regular use. Every Earthwear piece is made with reinforced seams and finished with high-quality overlock stitching.

Our Measure: This secures the fabric edges, prevents fraying, and improves durability, allowing the garment to be worn and washed regularly without losing its structure.

Preserving Hand Embroidery

Our hand embroidery is chosen for their lightness and grace.

Instead of using stiff interlinings which make garments stiff, we apply our technique directly onto the fabric so the embroidery is soft, light, and integrated into the fabric.

Our Measure: This ensures that the raw edges of delicate weaves are secured, preventing fraying and ensuring the garment can withstand the rhythm of your daily life.

Our priority is to ensure the garment stays comfortable and breathable, while the embroidery retains its detail and movement over time without feeling heavy or rigid.
